Attempted Armed Robbery of Woman at Fischer Blvd. Bank's ATM

Woman screamed and male fled in 9:30 p.m. incident

A man with a semi-automatic weapon attempted to rob a woman outside a Fischer Boulevard bank’s ATM last night, police said.

Toms River Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery at the Sovereign Bank, 940 Fischer Blvd. at the Hazelwood Road intersection at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night. 

Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said a 36 year old Toms River woman got out of her car to use the ATM when she was approached by a 25 year old male, armed with a semi-automatic handgun demanding money. The victim screamed, and the suspect fled on foot. No cash or property was stolen, and no injuries were reported, Mastronardy said.

The suspect is about 5’ 10 and wore a gray hooded pullover with black and yellow writing. 

Investigating are Officers Mike Macdonald and Detective John Bajcic and Detective Sergeant David McCallum.

The bank is a free-standing location on the corner of Hazelwood and Fischer Boulevard, across from the BellCrest Plaza. The bank was closed at the time and has one, drive-up ATM lane in the rear of the property near Hazelwood.
