Beachwood Man Arrested in Connection With Toms River Bank Robbery

Police began receiving tips after releasing photos of bank robbery suspect

Toms River detectives arrested and charged a Beachwood man in connection with the robbery of a Chase bank branch on Nov. 5.

James Bonelli, 33, of Beachwood Boulevard, was arrested in South Toms River on Friday and charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, Chief Michael Mastronardy said on Saturday.

Detectives searching the area on Wednesday recovered an imitation handgun that is believed to have been used in the bank robbery as well as some clothing items, Mastronardy said. Then, after releasing photos of the suspect, tips began to come in on the person's identity, Mastronardy said.

Bonelli was being lodged in the Ocean County Jail on $150,000 cash bail.

Detectives Jennifer Grob, Robert O’Neill, Marc Bajada, Roger Hull and South Toms River Police Officer Michael Schneidt are continuing the robbery investigation along with the Red Bank Office of the FBI.
