An Ocean County grand jury has handed up a three count indictment against a Beachwood man who is accused of robbing a Toms River bank with an imitation firearm.
James F. Bonelli, is facing charges of first degree bank robbery, third degree theft of U.S. currency and fourth degree possession of an imitation firearm in connection with a Nov. 5, 2013 bank robbery at the Chase Bank branch located at 54 Highland Parkway in Toms River.
Bonelli defendant is alleged to have entered the bank, waving what was thought to be a firearm and demanding money. The bank teller complied and the suspect fled, according to Al Della Fave of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.
Ultimately, after surveillance photos were released and an annonymous tip led authorities to arrest Bonelli.
"During the course of the investigation, law enforcement was able to find a spray painted black air soft gun with gloves and a mask in an area north of the bank," said Della Fave. "Additionally, they found a sweatshirt described to have been worn by the suspect in a dumpster near the bank."
Upon learning the whereabouts of their suspect, law enforcement set up surveillance and ultimately took Bonelli into custody without incident Nov. 8.
Bonelli’s bail was set at $150,000 cash. A pre-arraignment conference will occur within the next 21 days.
