Bicyclist Struck on Fischer Boulevard

Toms River man, 18, airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center

An 18-year-old Toms River man is listed as stable at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune after he was struck early Friday evening on Fischer Boulevard, officials said. 

Daniel Vonderheyden, 18, of Toms River, was crossing Fischer Boulevard about 6:30 p.m. with his bicycle at Francis Drive when he was hit by a 2011 Honda driven by Victor Cruz, 81, of Toms River, Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said.

Vonderheyden suffered a head injury and was airlifted to Jersey Shore, Mastronardy said. He was listed as stable this morning, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Traffic Safety Officers  Brian Doyle and Steven Schwartz are investigating the accident and ask anyone who witnessed the accident to call them at 732-349-0150.
