Blaze Damages Toms River Fire Training Site

Significant damage caused by late-night fire

A fire late Friday night damaged a building that is used for firefighter training in Toms River.

Toms River Police Officer Adam Worth was on routine patrol on Church Road at 11:30 p.m. Friday when he observed a smoke condition at the Toms River Fire Academy, Chief Michael Mastronardy said.

Further investigation found the “smoke house “ training building had an active fire, the chief said.

The Silverton, Pleasant Plains, Toms River #1 and #2 and East Dover fire companies responded and extinguished the fire, though is caused "significant damage" to the building, said Mastronardy.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated by the Ocean County Fire Marshal's Office.
