Police and fire blotter in Toms River

that left a Toms River man sliced in his face is still under investigation, said Seaside Heights Police Detective Steve Korman.

In the incident, 2:30 a.m. Saturday June 16 at Bar Riggers in Seaside Heights, police believe the victim was attacked by a man with a knife. Police have released no description of the suspect but said the investigation remains open.

A 6:30 incident Sunday left a man injured after a motorcycle and vehicle collided on Route 37 westbound in Pelican Island section of Toms River.

A motorcyclist traveling with several other cyclist was heading west and just before the Tunney bridge was involved in an accident. Police have not released any further details on the incident.

The victim was treated by Toms River Police EMS.

Crash on Parkway near Mile 78

A reporter motor vehicle crash at 4:51 a.m. June 18 required firefighters to extricate the driver trapped inside along exit 78 on the parkway.

Toms River Twp. Fire Companies stations 25, and 26 were dispatched to assist the Beachwood Vol. Fire Co. Station 16 for a motor vehicle crash, at mile marker 78.8 northbound.

Fire Chief John Gonzalez, of TR Station 25 was the first arriving Fire Officer, he observed a white Jeep Grand Cherokee off the right side of the roadway, with the right side of the vehicle against a large tree, facing perpendicular to the highway.

"One female patient was within the vehicle, who was found laying across the front seat with her head near the area of the right front door, the roof and right 'A' post had been pushed downward across the patient entrapping her in the vehicle," sad Toms River District 1 Fire Chief John Lightbody.

The woman had a weak pulse and was in serious condition, Lightbody said. Beachwood FD's Rescue Pumper arrived on scene, Chief Gonzalez directed them to cut the posts on the left side of the vehicle, and crews proceeded with a "rapid removal of the patient due to the medical condition," Lightbody said.

Toms River Station 25's Rescue arrived on scene, and cut the posts on the right side of the vehicle. "Both crews accomplished their assignments expeditiously and the roof was removed," Lightbody said..

The victim was transported by helicopter, who used the northbound lanes of the parkway as a landing zone.

Toms River Station 26 assisted Pine Beach Fire Station 38 with securing the landing zone.

One-car crash on Route 37 leaves passenger seriously injured

A 83-year old woman passenger sustained serious injuries after a car struck the center median on Route 37. The June 19 crash occurred 3:30 p.m. at Route 37 westbound and Shady Nook Drive, said Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy.  

Vincent Cataldo 89 was exiting the Commons Professional Complex on Route 37 west when he traveled across three lanes and struck the center concrete barrier. The car traveled 200 feet before stopping his 2003 Buick, Mastronardy said.

Both Vincent and his passenger Margret Cataldo 83, of Manchester, were transported to Community Medical Center, just a block east.   

Margret was later transported to Jersey shore Hospital for a head injury. Traffic Officer David Bartoshek and Officer Joshua Pedalino are investigating.
