Bomb Scare Probed at Route 9 Sovereign Bank

Stores evacuated while police searched in vain for explosives

Sovereign Bank and nearby stores were evacuated today as police investigated a bomb threat that didn't turn up any explosives.

Toms River police said the  in the Indian Head Plaza, Routes 9 and 571, received a bomb threat at 1 p.m. Officers responded and evacuated bank employees and those in nearby stores.

K-9 Units from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office helped police search for explosives. After nothing was found, employees were able to return to work around 2:15 p.m.

Toms River police, the Pleasant Plains Fire Company, Toms River EMS and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office all responded to the threat.

Officers Sean Smith and Detective Randy Petrick are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to contact Petrick at 732-349-0150 ext. 1235.
