An Ocean County man is charged with burglarizing multiple vehicles and biting a Lakewood police officer who arrested him Monday.

Rahmel Jones, 26, of Brick was arrested after police received a call about a car burglary in the area of Commonwealth Drive in Lakewood, township police said in a statement. After Officer Matthew McKee was first on the scene to investigate,
officers Alex Pedre and Michael Ruiz responded as back up and observed aman  fitting the description of the burglar walking in the area, according to police.

When the suspect, later identified as Jones, saw the officer he fled, the statement said, but Pedre and Ruiz gave chase and located him in the rear yard of a Liberty Drive home. The officers ordered Jones to the ground but he ignored their orders, the statement said, however Pedre and Ruiz were able to place him in custody with the use of compliance holds and pepper spray.

During the struggle, however, Pedre was bitten by Jones and Ruiz injured his knee. Both were treated and released back to duty, according to police.

A further investigation by Detective LeRoy Marshall revealed that Jones had been involved in several burglaries to local motor vehicles, police say. Proceeds of those burglaries resulted in the theft and use of the victims credit cards at local shopping malls and grocery stores, the statement said.

Jones was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, burglary, theft and receiving stolen property. His bail was set at $75,000 cash.

Jones, according to the statement, was also found to have an outstanding warrant from Howell Township for charges stemming from the use of a stolen credit card in a previous case in Lakewood in which a car was burglarized and a credit card was stolen and used back in June. Bail for the Howell Township warrant was an additional $8,500.

Why fight the cops when caught? Seems stupid as they always win.
