UPDATE: Fischer Blvd. Reopens After Brush Fire Controlled

Brush fire unrelated to larger fire in Beachwood

A brush fire – unrelated to the massive blaze that is still burning in Beachwood and Berkeley Township – closed a portion of Fischer Boulevard in Toms River on Thursday for about an hour.

The roadway was closed between Yellowbank Road and Hooper Avenue, but reopened between 3:30 and 4 p.m.

"The fire was concentrated to the area of Fischer Blvd. and Pumpshire Avenue on the eastern side of the roadway," said police spokesman Ralph Stocco.

Two sheds in the rear of a home on Pumpshire were damaged by the blaze, Stocco said.

Authorities remained on scene as of 4:30 p.m. however the road had been reopened and the fire is under control, under to Stocco.
