UPDATED: Two Cars Overturn on Parkway North in Toms River

Flipped vehicles obstruct left and center lanes of Garden State Parkway

Both state police and local fire authorities were called to the scene of an overturned car on the Garden State Parkway just after 12 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

According to Sgt. Brian Polite of the New Jersey State Police, at 11:55 a.m., the driver of a green Mercury Mountaineer heading northbound on the Parkway lost control of the vehicle, hit a guardrail, and rolled over — which caused the Mountaineer to struck a tan-colored Jeep also heading north. Subsequently, the Jeep also rolled over due to the collision with the Mountaineer.

None of the occupants were entrapped in their respective vehicles and only minor injuries were incurred by both the drivers and their passengers, though traffic heading north on the Parkway was backed up for several miles, as a result of the accident.
