Car Stolen in Toms River Found Burning in Lakewood

Sports memorabilia was in the car at the time it was stolen

A car stolen from Toms River was found on fire overnight in Lakewood, police said.

At about 1 a.m. Wednesday, the Lakewood Township Police Department responded to the 200 block of Pine Acres Boulevard for a vehicle fire, said Ralph Stocco, police spokesman. Upon arrival they found a 2007 Pontiac G6 fully engulfed in flames, which was extinguished by the Lakewood Township Fire Department.

It was eventually determined by police that the vehicle had been stolen from the 200 block of Hamilton Avenue in Toms River on Jan. 24, Stocco said.

The owner parked the car in front of his house the night before and noticed that it was missing when he woke up. Inside of the vehicle at the time of the theft were two sports memorabilia collectables, Tony Romo plaque as well as an autographed Michael Irvin Photograph.

The value of the items was $400.
