A car hit a pole last week on Cedar Grove Road, resulting in a temporary power shut-down and the arrest of the driver, police said Wednesday.
The investigation revealed that Kenneth L. Price Jr., 27, of Egg Harbor Township, and his female passenger were having an argument over her refusing to buy him cigarettes.
According to Toms River police:
On Friday at 10 a.m., police units responded to Cedar Grove Road and Pheasant Lane for a vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, officers observed that a vehicle had struck a utility pole, snapping it in half, causing Cedar Grove Road to be shut down.
A 21-year-old woman from Willaimstown was located sitting in the passenger seat bleeding from a significant head injury.
Bystanders reported that the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot prior to police arrival. Officers located him a short time later near the corner of Cedar Grove Road and Bay Avenue.
During the argument Mr. Price intentionally swerved his 2009 Pontiac back and forth as he traveled east on Cedar Grove Road which caused him to lose control and strike the utility pole.
The passenger was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center by Toms River Township EMS.
Price was arrested on an outstanding child support warrant in the amount of $11,500 as well as an Egg Harbor Twp. warrant for $500.
Price was also charged with Reckless Driving, Leaving the scene of an accident, and a criminal charge of driving while suspended causing serious bodily injury. He was lodged in the Ocean County Jail.
The roadway and power was shut down for approximately four hours while utility workers repaired the damage.
