Christie Taps Ocean County Assistant Prosecutor to Juvenile Justice Committee

Governor Chris Christie has appointed Supervising Ocean County Assistant Prosecutor Anthony Pierro to the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Advisory Committee, the prosecutor's office announced Wednesday.

Pierro, who is the head of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Juvenile Unit, is the only assistant prosecutor statewide to be currently appointed to the committee, officials said. Pierro was nominated and appointed "due to his recognized juvenile expertise by a committee comprised of members from multiple disciplines involved in the Juvenile Justice System," said Al Della Fave, prosecutor's office spokesman.

"I can go on endlessly regarding his value and dedication to my office and the citizens we serve," said Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph Coronato. "I am tremendously proud of his well-deserved appointment to such a prestigious position. This committee is responsible for crafting and implementing major change in the Juvenile Justice system in our state and beyond New Jersey’s borders."

Over the last 15 years while serving with the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Pierro’s career has been marked by numerous significant contributions and accomplishments, Della Fave said, with the most recent being a number of effective drug forums he coordinated throughout Ocean County to raise awareness of the county's heroin crisis.

Pierro can be found "constantly speaking before community groups on a multitude of topics of concern to residents, as well as, lecturing to colleagues on advanced practices in responding to juvenile justice issues," the office said in a statement.

Pierro has previous spoken at conferences held in Atlanta, Philadelphia, New York and Washington, D.C. regarding the appropriate utilization of the juvenile justice system. He was selected to speak for his knowledge and experience in the field, gained serving as a member of New Jersey’s Counsel for Juvenile Justice System Improvement. New Jersey is the only state in the nation designated a “Model” state for Juvenile Justice by the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
