Toms River police are investigating a robbery that occurred just before 6:30 p.m. Monday night at the Asby News Hooper Avenue in Silverton.

Michael Mastronardy said a white male — about 6’ 3” wearing dark clothing, sunglasses and a dark hat — walked into the Asby News & Varieties Store on Hooper Avenue.

The man approached a female clerk and demanded money, Mastronardy said. He fled on foot to the rear of the shopping center, which is on the corner of Silver Bay Road and Hooper.

The store is the corner property next to the jughandle for the intersection, and police said the man fled to the back of the plaza there. Approximately $200 in cash was stolen, Mastronardy said.

The female victim, a 50 year-old Toms River resident, was not injured and did not observe a weapon, said the police chief.

"Police are investigating if there is any relationship to the robbery of a pizza delivery man that occurred on Periwinkle Street in Silverton on Friday night," Mastronardy said in an email. The pizza delivery man robbery involved an employee of a Silverton pizzeria robbed by a man with a knife while the teen employee was out on delivery.

Investigating are Toms River Police Officer Jason Stallworth, Detectives Louis Santora and John Bajcic and the Department.

George/ Martin put your big girl panties on and think if that clerk was your wife, son or daughter! There they are with the act of surprise against them and without any way at all to defend themselves The amount of money is quite irrelevant; the threat is Real!

Your lack of reading comprehension is truly astounding. I said I am pro-choice. You still didn't answer my question. How do you differentiate the two?

John, it's futile. The left loonies will take the conversation in circles, ignoring the finer points we're trying to make and twisting words around to suit their argument. I noticed not one of them actually addresses a comment directed at them, but instead makes broad based accusations and assumptions on what "we're" all about. Our rights never play into it. Our Constitution is ignored for the convenience of their need to be "right". They posted a sketch in another article here today of this thug. He certainly does not look like a junkie to me or someone who is too stupid to work a decent job. Sorry, I am sick of hearing people making excuses why it's OK to be a despicable excuse of a human being.

Ah, I see George took out his comment. The sign of a true coward. Moderators: the ability to defile and vandalize a thread by those commenting should be eliminated. I run several websites with forums and the edit time for a post is an hour and members cannot delete their comments. Allowing this throws off the flow of conversation.
