Clerk Robbed At Silverton Store

Police investigating similarities to suspect wanted in pizza delivery man robbery

Toms River police are investigating a robbery that occurred just before 6:30 p.m. Monday night at the Asby News Hooper Avenue in Silverton.

Michael Mastronardy said a white male — about 6’ 3” wearing dark clothing, sunglasses and a dark hat — walked into the Asby News & Varieties Store on Hooper Avenue.

The man approached a female clerk and demanded money, Mastronardy said. He fled on foot to the rear of the shopping center, which is on the corner of Silver Bay Road and Hooper.

The store is the corner property next to the jughandle for the intersection, and police said the man fled to the back of the plaza there. Approximately $200 in cash was stolen, Mastronardy said.

The female victim, a 50 year-old Toms River resident, was not injured and did not observe a weapon, said the police chief.

"Police are investigating if there is any relationship to the robbery of a pizza delivery man that occurred on Periwinkle Street in Silverton on Friday night," Mastronardy said in an email. The pizza delivery man robbery involved an employee of a Silverton pizzeria robbed by a man with a knife while the teen employee was out on delivery.

Investigating are Toms River Police Officer Jason Stallworth, Detectives Louis Santora and John Bajcic and the Department.

@securevelope You are bordering on hysterical, and you're talking out your ass. You take everything I and a few others have said and twisted it into 'extreme' assumptions. Yet YOU are completely indignant that anyone make assumptions about you. Typical. EggsanToast is right; there is no reasoning with the unreasonable and hysterical. Do us all a favor and stay in your house with your guns... we don't need nutjobs like you on the streets thinking you're rightfully "armed for justice" at the drop of a hat.
Mattie February 15, 2012 at 05:22 PM
Ah yes, BN.... mowing down (peaceful) protesters in a hail of gunfire. Very American.... very respectful of human rights, the constitution and our democracy. Yeah, you're a real picture of patriotism and Christian ideals. (that's sarcasm- just in case you don't get it)
Mattie February 15, 2012 at 05:27 PM
Here's where you keep missing the boat --- Not having carry / conceal permits IS NOT THE SAME as outlawing guns or gun ownership. Stop equating the two and get your head out of your butt. No one wants to take your gun ownership rights away... sane people just want you to keep your guns (if you choose to own them) OFF THE STREETS and away from the general public.
Securevelope February 15, 2012 at 06:28 PM
So I was right, you do need remedial reading comprehension, George. Mattie might want to take that same course with you. Hysterical? I promise you I'm far from hysterical. But your comments are "hysterical" in the amusing sense.
Securevelope February 15, 2012 at 06:30 PM
Mattie, you think that protecting yourself should only be limited to the confines of your home? That my dear is hysterical (again, in the laughable context)! I hope you're up on your gun laws and what you can and cannot do to protect yourself within your own home. The sad, sorry fact is the ass-hat breaking in and terrorizing you has more rights than you do if you hurt him or he causes himself to so much as endure a cut.

Sign the petition ! (Except for Scrambled Eggs, Mattie, George and Martin) http://www.change.or...right-to-carry# copy and paste
Zerosignal_ February 15, 2012 at 10:33 PM
Actually crime would go down. Stupid people would think twice before trying to rob someone if they knew they were carrying.
George February 15, 2012 at 11:50 PM
No, Zerosignal, actually the murder rate would go up because "stupid people," by definition, wouldn't "think twice" about stealing even if some nut might have a gun. Then the shooter using deadly force on an unarmed 18-year-old amateur thief could face murder charges. And John B, give it up already. You won't win this one no matter how many times you re-post the same thing to try to get more signatures for your cockamamie petition. It ain't gonna happen. Most people in NJ are sane.
Shore Skeptic February 16, 2012 at 01:58 AM
Its a shame how many people are willing to hand over their fundamental rights to a centralized government without a fight. The Constitution is clear. Americans have the right to arms, period. There is nothing to read into, analyze, or debate. Open your eyes to whats is going on in the world. You may think crime is escalating now, but just wait until the SHTF when the dollar collapses, there are crop shortages, WWIII, or the next natural disaster occurs. You will be a sitting duck without protection for sure.
John B Taxpayer February 16, 2012 at 02:03 AM
You, Sir, are a moron. FBI Stats prove Crime dropped dramatically, when Law abiding citizens are allowed to exercise their 2nd amendment constitutional rights, something you obviously don't treasure. I assume you never served this country, did you? Many have died defending that constitution. Yes, even for pathetic individuals like YOU! Please do your research before you post and demonstrate your stupidity!
Securevelope February 16, 2012 at 02:31 AM
"No, Zerosignal, actually the murder rate would go up because "stupid people," by definition, wouldn't "think twice" about stealing even if some nut might have a gun. " You're calling the person with a gun defending themselves a nut and not the thug robbing him or raping her? Really?
Securevelope February 16, 2012 at 04:04 PM
I would like George to prove the murder rate will go up. And I'd like him to show me the definition where self defense is the same as murder.
George February 16, 2012 at 04:33 PM
If you're going to blow someone away simply because he asks for money at a convenience store -- that's murder. If you're packing heat and use it when you observe the attempted hold-up -- that's murder, not self-defense. Ask any cop, lawyer or judge. Your comments just "proved" that you're a trigger-happy cowboy who wants to play God.
Securevelope February 16, 2012 at 04:43 PM
So, you think anyone and everyone who owns a gun legally for defense is an outright maniac with the gun and is so trigger happy that they go around shooting for the sake of shooting? Seriously? Not one person with a gun could possibly do his or her level best not to have to pull that trigger in your mind? Is your "proof" of this nation-wide or specific by state? Or just in your head, because you know, there is no way on earth that I (or anyone else) could know a cop, lawyer or judge, right? I should take your word at face value? Seriously? I absolutely know the things I've said in this thread have been researched and can be proven by a simple search if you had an inclination do to so instead of shrieking how people are nuts to want to defend themselves. And for your information George, criminals don't come in and "simply ask for money" - they are robbing you which in itself is a terroristic act and should be stopped. I don't give a rat's ass if they are poor and looking for money for food. It does not warrant criminal behavior. There is absolutely no excuse for criminal behavior. There are government programs that help the poor eat and get shelter, all one has to do is ask not rob.
John B Taxpayer February 16, 2012 at 09:43 PM
Poor George must be a Momma's boy! And you mother never taught you the value of the freedoms that are part of the American Constitution. Dry up and blow away!
George February 16, 2012 at 09:51 PM
Like the freedom to shoot first and ask questions later? Where's that in the Constitution?
Mattie February 16, 2012 at 11:57 PM
George- You are wasting your time trying to argue or make sense to these gun-happy macho men. I promise you, the only thing to stop these guys from absolutely shitting in their baggy boxers should they be confronted by a 6'4" muscle bound "thug" who wanted their wallet, would be a loaded gun in their pocket. Other than that, they would hand over their lousy 10 bucks like anyone else. They just want the right to KILL for their pocket change, you know, to prove they're so bad .... real tough guys.
Securevelope February 16, 2012 at 11:59 PM
What would you do sweetie? Crap your pants and beg for mercy?
Securevelope February 17, 2012 at 12:01 AM
George, you truly are ignorant. I'm being polite calling you ignorant too because your lack of knowledge and hysteria and misinformation is truly astounding. You should be ashamed of yourself for even thinking those who want our civil right to defend ourselves would even think about going around shooting people like we're bloodthirsty maniacs. It's people like you who cause so much misinformation to be spread like a disease. I'll wager you don't even understand the Constitution let alone what it means. It's astounding that you think the rights of thugs and criminals come before the victim. Please post back when you are the victim and let me know how you feel after that, mmm 'K?
George February 17, 2012 at 12:25 AM
Sure, Secure, and you please post back if they let you use the prison computer, because your "justifiable homicide" defense won't sway a jury.
Securevelope February 17, 2012 at 01:57 AM
Hey George, can I safely assume you are pro-choice? I know I am, so knowing this, and assuming you are too, how do you justify taking an unborn baby's life? Is that too not murder?

If I kill a pregnant whale, how many lives did I take?
John B Taxpayer February 18, 2012 at 01:18 AM
Who said shoot anybody? Moron This is about the ability to defend one's self when your own life is in eminent danger! Yes, someone that threatens bodily harm, is putting your life in eminent danger! One can reason that with a 6 year old better than you!
PMSNBC February 18, 2012 at 01:21 AM
I'm guessing you weren't captain of the debate team?
John B Taxpayer February 18, 2012 at 01:23 AM
George/ Martin put your big girl panties on and think if that clerk was your wife, son or daughter! There they are with the act of surprise against them and without any way at all to defend themselves The amount of money is quite irrelevant; the threat is Real!
Securevelope February 18, 2012 at 09:27 PM
Your lack of reading comprehension is truly astounding. I said I am pro-choice. You still didn't answer my question. How do you differentiate the two?
Securevelope February 18, 2012 at 10:35 PM
John, it's futile. The left loonies will take the conversation in circles, ignoring the finer points we're trying to make and twisting words around to suit their argument. I noticed not one of them actually addresses a comment directed at them, but instead makes broad based accusations and assumptions on what "we're" all about. Our rights never play into it. Our Constitution is ignored for the convenience of their need to be "right". They posted a sketch in another article here today of this thug. He certainly does not look like a junkie to me or someone who is too stupid to work a decent job. Sorry, I am sick of hearing people making excuses why it's OK to be a despicable excuse of a human being.
Securevelope February 19, 2012 at 02:46 PM
Ah, I see George took out his comment. The sign of a true coward. Moderators: the ability to defile and vandalize a thread by those commenting should be eliminated. I run several websites with forums and the edit time for a post is an hour and members cannot delete their comments. Allowing this throws off the flow of conversation.
