Cops: Drunk Man Mistook House in Lacey for His, In Toms River

Police were called after Toms River man was seen trying to enter a resident's yard

Police in Lacey say a Toms River man fell about eight miles short of his intended destination when he mistook a home in township's Forked River section for his – in Toms River.

Yousef Qazi now faces a drunk driving charge, police say.

The incident began with a phone call to Lacey police at 1:23 a.m. Sunday morning, when a resident of the 600 block of Windsor Street in Forked River called to report a man attempting to enter his yard.

The man, identified as Qazi, was located in the rear yard of a Deerhead Lake Drive residence standing behind a shed, police said, and told Officer Alan Abrecht that he he was going to his home on Schoolhouse Lane in Toms River.

"He was confused and did not believe that he was not at his residence," when officers told him he was actually in Forked River, police said in a statement.

According to the statement, Qazi's vehicle was located running in the roadway with its lights on parked on Deerhead Lake Drive, with minor damage to its mirror, front bumper and quarter panel.

Albrecht had Qazi perform field sobriety tests, which eventually led to his arrest.

Qazi was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed for DWI and released to a family member after being issued summonses for DWI and Reckless Driving.
