Cops: Toms River Man, 18, Shot Mother's Ex-Boyfriend With BB Gun

A Toms River man has been charged in the BB gun assault of a man described as his mother's ex-boyfriend.

Police began investigating after finding the man, who was not identified by name, passed out in the bathroom of a Wawa store on Route 37 around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The man, police spokesman Ralph Stocco said, was intoxicated and bleeding at the time.

An investigation showed that the man, earlier in the night, had gone to his ex-girlfriend’s home on the 500 block of Woodland Avenue and passed out on the lawn, only to find awake to Jacob Weightman, 18, shooting him with a BB gun, Stocco said.

The victim was treated for minor wounds to his forehead, face, and shoulder, Stcco said.

Weightman was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon and released on $75,000 bail.
