Cops: Undercover Sting Nabs Toms River Woman Selling Stolen Eye Exam Machine

Hindsight may be 20-20 for local couple who police say hatched a plan to re-sell eye exam equipment that was allegedly stolen.

Fritzley Francois, 26, of Lakewood, and Amy Morgan, 29, of Toms River, have each been charged by Lakewood police with theft, receiving stolen property and fencing.

Police began investigating the case Thursday after a receiving a call from a Ventura Drive resident reporting a Phoroptor, valued at $2,500, had been stolen after it was delivered to his doorstep. The resident told police that he received a call from a seller of medical equipment in New York City, who said he had just gotten off the phone with someone attempting to sell him back the Phoroptor, which had just been shipped.

Police set up a sting after seeing the same equipment up for sale – the same day – on the classified ad site Craigslist for $1,200.

Detective Jason Pederson, posing as a local eye doctor, set up a meeting with the seller at a convenience store on New Hampshire Avenue that night, where the deal went down and the suspected sellers, Fancois and Morgan, were arrested, police said.

Francois' bail was set at $22,500 and Morgan's bail $15,000, according to police. Both were being lodged in the Ocean County Jail.
