Court Blotter: Local Theft and Assault Charges

Handed up recently by Ocean County juries

  • Jaquan M. Filippi, 19, of South Toms River on a charge of receiving stolen property.

Filippi was in possession of a stolen LG 50-inch television and Nike sneakers in Berkeley and South Toms River on July 3 and 4, the indictment states. Filippi also alegedly fled from police when confronted, earning an obstructing the administration of law charge. 

Filippi was initially jailed on $15,000 bail but posted Sept. 10.

  • Alexander P. Salek, 31, and John L. Applegate, 21, on burglary charges.

Salek, of Chadwick Avenue in Toms River, was indicted on four counts of burglary and one count of theft in connection with a series of break-ins at 1902 Route 37 East.

Salek is accused of burglarizing the shop on June 24, July 1, 13  and 14, and cumulatively stealing more than $500 in cash, the indictment states.

Applegate was charged with one count of burglary for participating in the July 14 break-in, the indictment states.

Additionally, both men were charged with obstructing the administration of law for allegedly fleeing from police officers when they encountered the pair on July 14.

Salek posted $25,000 bail on the charges on July 21. Applegate remains lodged in jail on $50,000 bail, no 10 percent option.

  • Robert A. Beattie, 48, of Toms River on a theft charge.

Beattie allegedly stole buckets of recyclable metals, including copper, brass and chrome plumbing pipes, from a Berkeley resident on Oct. 28, the indictment states. He was released on a summons.

  • Michael K. Kowalski, 48 of Bayville on theft and dealing in stolen property charges.

Kowalski allegedly stole more than $500 in jewelry from a Toms River woman on Aug. 22 and then sold it.
