T M22: oh so it's the child's fault because the child "could have moved". YES I said the dog went for the throat because when I read "critical neck injury" I envision the dog attacking the child from the front and biting around the throat and neck causing the "critical injury" probably intense bleeding and/or ripped a good deal of flesh off the area. I doubt the dog attacked from behind and attacked the child's neck.

Holden - where did you get your figures from? Checked several sights and none of them match your numbers. BTW Holden on Wikipedia it also shows that a Labrodor Retriever killed a child. Does anyone remember when German Shepards were killers and Dobermans went crazy and would kill their owner because their brains outgrew their heads? Pit Bulls were around back then - it's more the overbredding and use by people in dog fighting that has caused problems.

Jackie, I found similar studies all over the internet. Just google pit bull attack studies. Or use the link below and you will find studies. Are you really that naive that you are going to point out that one time a Labrador killed a child. In 2011 there were 31 fatal dog attacks and pit bulls were responsible for 22 of them. Every 20 days a pit kills another helpless person. Pit bulls kills their owners more than any other breed so all of you idiots who tell me their pits will lick you to death rather than hurt you...sleep with one eye open because you may be next http://www.dogsbite.org/dog-bite-statistics-fatalities-2011.php 2011 statistics 31 U.S. fatal dog attacks occurred in 2011. Despite being regulated in Military Housing areas and over 600 U.S. cities, pit bulls led these attacks accounting for 71% (22). Pit bulls make up less than 5% of the total U.S. dog population.4 The year 2011 also marks an increase in pet pit bulls killing their owners. Of the 8 total instances this year in which a family dog inflicted fatal injury to its primary caretaker, the dog's owner, 88% (7) involved pet pit bulls. The breakdown between pit bulls and rottweilers is substantial over this 7-year period. From 2005 to 2011, pit bulls killed 128 Americans, about one citizen every 20 days, versus rottweilers, which killed 29; about one citizen every 88 days.
