Drivers Escape Injury When Vehicle Overturns on Bay Ave.

Toms River man turned in front of another vehicle, police say

Two drivers escaped injury Tuesday in a crash on Bay Avenue in Toms River, police said.

According to police spokesman Ralph Stocco, Thomas Schulte, 21, of Laurel Drive in Toms River was traveling east on Bay Avenue in his 2010 Nissan when he began a left turn at Indian Hill Road. Erin Simonelli, 39, of Homestead Road in Toms River was traveling west on Bay in her 2002 Mazda when Schulte turned in front of her.

Simonelli, Stocco said, stepped on her brake and attempted to stop, however she still collided with the passenger side of Schulte’s car. As a result of the impact, Schulte’s vehicle spun sideways and then rolled over onto its side, Stocco said.

The investigation is being led by Traffic Safety Officer Terry Warren and is still under review, Stocco said.
