A man spotted sleeping in his truck Saturday morning was later stopped by police after waking up and now faces drug and credit card fraud charges.
Police stopped the driver, 20-year-old Scott Goodman of Hovsons Boulevard in Holiday City Silverton, after being advised that he was unconscious in a truck at Route 9 and Cox Cro Road around 10 a.m., said Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy.
The caller then told police the truck left south on Route 9—shortly thereafter it was stopped by Toms River Police Officers John Mehl and Peter Saker. When the officers approached the vehicle, they saw three marijuana plants on the passenger seat, Mastronardy said.
Officers arrested Goodman and charged him with DWI, drug possession, possession of burglary tools, and possession of stolen property, the chief said.
After arresting Goodman, police said that they found him in possession of credit cards, keys and other items allegedly taken from unlocked cars on Huddy Drive, County Trace, Mastronardy said.
Goodman is being held in Ocean County Jail on $50,000 bail, no 10 percent option, Mastronardy said.
Goodman also faces charges for fraudulent use of a credit card and credit card theft, according to the Ocean County Department of Corrections.
Detective Alex Scherer is continuing the investigation, according to the chief.
