Walgreens Robbed of Painkillers, Suspect Fled on Foot with Hand Gun

Toms River Police are investigating an early Sunday morning robbery of painkillers at the Walgreens drug store, routes 9 and 70.

The suspect, described as a white male, 5-foot-9, with blue eyes wearing a dark jacket, beige pants, black shoes, gloves and a mask, entered the store around  2:30 a.m. 

A Monmouth Ocean Consolidated Intelligence Bureau bulletin issued immediately after the robbery said the suspect had his mouth and nose covered with a mask, and fled on foot heading behind the building.

The suspect entered the drug store, went to the back of the store, jumped over the counter of the pharmacy and demanded "oxys" from the pharmacist on duty at the 24-hour-store.

He put the pills, over 100,  in a tan plastic bag that he brought with him.

The suspect then jumped back over the counter to the amzement of the four customers and three employees who were in the store at the time of the robbery.

He fled the store, running to the rear of the building.  The store manager followed him, prompting the suspect to turn and fire a shot at him.  The store manager was not injured.

Police, during their investigation, recovered the spent casing of the bullet.

 Sergeant Thomas Laffan, Officers Dan Herr and Eric Harris, and Detective Brian Lomer  are investigating the robbery along with the Ocean County Sheriff's Department.
