Delays on Parkway Southbound for Accident

Witness says coupe traveled from left lane, across traffic and into tree

A motor vehicle accident on the parkway southbound immediately slowed traffic in the rainy conditions Friday, creating traffic delays.

Conditions are now clear at 3:30 p.m. though five mile delays were originally reported.

Just before 2:45 p.m. a silver coupe traveled across three lanes of southbound traffic, over the shoulder and down the embankment and crashed into the tree line before the Toms River toll plaza.

The witness told Toms River Patch that the crash was dramatic.

“I’m not sure what caused him, what was the impact but he dramatically went sharply, diagonally, across three whole lanes,” said the witness.

The vehicle flew off the parkway and crashed into a tree, which cracked and sent branches atop the vehicle. "I was shocked he didn't hit any cars as he went from the left lane off the shoulder. I was right there."

State police were reporting five mile delays before the Brick parkway exit for Chambersbridge. At 3:30 p.m., traffic delays had eased.
