Coastal flood advisory issued by National Weather Service

Most of New Jersey is under a Coastal Flood Advisory this evening, according to a National Weather Service alert.

The forecast specific to Toms River from the NWS:

Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 3am. Low around 56. East wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tuesday: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 61. East wind around 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: Periods of rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 57. East wind between 14 and 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid driving through flooded areas for hydroplaning or damage to vehicles. High tide is at 11:15 p.m. tonight and again at 12:17 p.m. Tuesday.
