Storm Weakens, Tornado Warning Canceled

Low lying areas may be at risk for flooding, Toms River officials cautioned

A tornado warning issued Tuesday morning in Ocean County has since been canceled, the National Weather Service said. 

The storm containing the possible tornado was near Manahawkin at about 10:09 a.m., officials said. It has since weakened to a point where meteorologists do not anticipate a tornado can form, though severe thunderstorms are possible in the area. 

Toms River emergency officials are warning residents to watch for flooding Tuesday as forecasters call for possible flash floods throughout the state, including Ocean County.

Low lying areas in the township could see flooding, township Office of Emergency Management officials said in a Nixle alert Tuesday morning.

“Please take appropriate measures to protect life and property. If there is significant flooding in roadways, turn around, don't drown!” the message reads.

The National Weather Service forecast calls for possible heavy rainfall and a thunderstorm. A flash flood warning is in effect until for the area until 2:45 p.m.
