Forest Fire Risk At Peak During Spring Months, Report Says

Dry woods, sandy soil, low humidity contribute to risk


The Pine Barrens’ brittle bark, branches and pine needles worry state Fire Warden Bill Edwards more in April than any other month of the year, according a story in the Asbury Park Press.

Decades of experience with the state Forest Fire Service have developed Edwards’ concern. It is just 12 weeks into the year, and Edwards is well aware the forest floor is the ripe kindling for wildfires now.
