Four Charged After Drug Raid Seizes 200 Bags of Drugs

Additional charges due to proximity to public park

Police arrested four individuals in raids at two New Street residences and also seized 200 bags of heroin and pills, as well as a handgun. County officials said the two homes were suspected hotbeds of drug distribution.

The May 17 raid of the homes in the 2100 block of New Street in Toms River resulted in charges for four individuals inside the two residences, said Captain Jack Sramaty of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

The raid was without incident, using officers from the Prosecutor’s Special Operations Group and Toms River Police Department to execute a search warrant at the two addresses, which were a few doors away from each other.

Sramaty said in an announcement today that the two addresses were suspected drug distribution centers.

"Both residences were identified as being utilized by the individuals listed below to facilitate their drug distribution activities," he said.

Police seized approximately 200 bags of heroin and prescription medications including Oxycontin pills, Sramaty said. Also seized was a loaded .22 caliber handgun.

Four individuals were charged as a result of the raid, Sramaty said. Among the charges were possession of a controlled dangerous substance within 500 feet of a public park, as the Little League fields are nearby on Windsor Avenue.

Leo Johnson, 36, of New Street, was charged with possession of heroin under one half ounce, possession of heroin under one half ounce with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a CDS offense and possession of CDS (Heroin) with intent to distribute while being within 500 feet of a public park. Johnson’s bail was set at $150,000 cash only.

Krista Huerta, 39, of New Street, was charged with possession of heroin under one half ounce, possession of heroin under one half ounce with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a CDS offense and possession of CDS (Heroin) with intent to distribute while being within 500 feet of a public park. Huerta’s bail was set at $150,000 no ten percent.

Danilo Garcia, 35 of New Street, was charged with possession of heroin, possession of CDS (Oxycontin), possession of CDS (Oxycontin) with intent to distribute and possession of CDS (Oxycontin) with intent to distribute while being within 500 feet of a public park. Garcia’s bail was set at $50,000 no ten percent.

Michael Bezak, 33, of Letts Landing Avenue in Waretown, was charged with possession of heroin. Bezak was released on a summons.

Assisting in the execution of the search warrants were members of the Toms River Police ESU Team and the Ocean County Sheriffs Department K-9 Unit.

They should give them a second chance. Remember drug addiction is a disease.
Phil Ashio May 23, 2012 at 03:49 pm
Let's remember people with the economy so bad they probably had no choice other then to sell drugs..Obama must go before the whole country turns to selling drugs
billy jones May 23, 2012 at 08:43 pm
Mr. Ashio you are right about the economy. It gives people no other choice.
Kmo May 24, 2012 at 02:49 am
Cancer is a disease. Using the economy as an excuse to sell drugs is silly. If they had a job before the economic problems surfaced then they would be entitled to unemployment. Get a new job maybe one that pays a lot less than your old one and if that's not enough do what I did and get two... I'm sure they weren't tearing up their workplace before Obama was in charge. Too many excuses never a resolution
billy jones May 24, 2012 at 03:09 am
Get a grip. It is because of economic reasons they resort to drug dealing that is a fact.

I call BS on drug addiction or any other addiction a disease. That's the new PC excuse for this kind of behavior.
NO ONE forced them to take that first pill, use that needle, snort that line, drink that whiskey or dare I say, smoke that cigarette? Yeah, the two "legals" are both addictive. Nope, they did this of their own volition and they don't have the capacity to know when it's enough. BS on "addictive personalities" or any of the other PC excuses. A disease is something you cannot help. It's something caught by an airborne contaminant or something you are prone to genetically from birth. FYI - Billy Jones, dealing drugs is not an addiction. It's a crime.

The economy has grown at an average annual rate of 2.4% under Obama since he got us out of the recession in June 2009. Its quite remarkable what that man has done. Unemployment rate for those with a college degree is under 4%. The people complaining are the ones with no education (or a dead end major), and looking to blame someone else for their own ignorance. Dealing drugs is a crime and there is simply no excuse. Go to school, this is America, your dreams can still come true but it takes hard work and an adequate education.

You're right that using the economy as an excuse to sell drugs is horrible. However, addiction IS a disease with many commonalities with cancer. The American Medical Association and American Psychiatric Society both state that addiction is a progressive, degenerative disease which requires both medical and psychological treatments. It's well and good to criticize drug-pushers, but don't get sucked into the opinion that addicts are somehow morally degenerate - they're sick people who need help.
