Fundraising Effort Launched for Toms River Volunteer Firefighter, Police Officer Injured in Accident

Friends of a longtime volunteer firefighter and EMT in Toms River who also works as a part time police officer in Island Heights have started a fund to help cover medical expenses after he was seriously injured in an accident recently.

Timothy Geoghegan, 26, suffered critical injuries after a driver ran a stop sign at the intersection of on Oakhill Drive and Larch Drive last month and broadsided his Jeep. The woman who police say caused the accident was issued a careless driving summons.

But friends of Geoghegan say the Toms River resident, who has been a volunteer firefighter and EMT since he was 18, has no medical insurance and had a limited motor vehicle policy, and is in need of some help.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Geoghegan with his bills.

"He sustained multiple life threatening injuries that will leave him wheelchair bound for approximately three to six months," the GoFundMe page says.

Geoghegan, friends say, has been dedicated to saving the lives of others for years, having served as a firefighter with the Silverton Fire Company and Silverton EMS in Toms River and the Tri-Boro EMS in Seaside Park. He has also worked as a part-time police officer in Seaside Heights and Island Heights.

So far, the GoFundMe page has raised $2,865.
