Heavy Volume Continues on Route 37

Forty-five-minute delays were reported for traffic heading toward and away from Seaside Heights

Heavy volume continues to clog west and eastbound lanes of Route 37, as travelers head from the Garden State Parkway entrance toward the Mathis bridge.

Forty-five-minute bridge traffic delays were reported on both sides of the highway as of 4 p.m. The heaviest volume is ongoing at Route 166, Hooper Avenue and Route 35 intersections on Route 37 eastbound.

However an accident on Route 37 in the Berkeley Township section of Pelican Island is also slowing traffic. Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said an accident with multiple injuries is underway.

According to NJDOT, Route 37 is down to one lane near Route 35 at 2:20 p.m Further details were not immediately available.

Mastronardy said on the barrier island, travelers should be alert for crossing guards and pedestrians crossing both north and south Route 35.

As in previous years, crossing guards are stationed at key intersections to stop traffic and allow pedestrians and bicyclists to cross Route 35.
