House Fire in Ocean Beach

Fire slowed traffic on Route 35 southbound, no injuries to homeowners.

A house fire was underway at 2:30 a.m. this morning in the Ocean Beach section of the barrier island portion of Toms River.

Fire crews were battling the blaze, in a residential area of the barrier island community, at a waterfront two-story home near the intersection of Route 35 southbound and Norman Court.

The homeowners, Ann and Kenneth Engles, heard smoke detectors go off due to a heavy smoke condition on the first floor of the home, according to Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy.
