Injured Toddler Dies In Home Accident

Television fell from dresser striking child.

A two-year-old girl has died after she was rushed to Community Medical Center Saturday afternoon, according to Michael Mastronardy.

Just after 1 p.m. Toms River police responded to an emergency call of an injured child in the eastern section of the township, police said.

Police officers learned that a large television fell from a three-to-four-foot dresser striking the toddler. She was rushed to the hospital by Toms River Police EMS where she was pronounced.

Lt. Michael Belcher and Detective Brian Lomer are investigating along with the Ocean County Prosecutors Office and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department.

A second, unrelated infant death occurred near Route 70 in Toms River.

On Friday morning Toms River Police responded to a residence in the mobile home park off Route 70 at 7:30 a.m. for a CPR call.

The parents of an 8-week-old baby girl brought the infant into bed with them after the baby was feed at about 2 a.m.

When they awoke the parents realized the baby was not breathing. The baby was rushed to Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood by Toms River Police EMS where she was pronounced.

How very sad! This is why there are wall mounts, brackets etc to hold the larger TVS in place. There are even ways to mount wall unit sections to the wall so they will not fall! Some times we can do all the right things and still something bad will happen!

This is horrible. I actually worried more with the big picture tubes on smaller say 27 inch TVs than I would with my really big one that I can lift n move to clean. I did used to worry about dressers falling etc but u think you're mostly beiing paranoid like the other lady said. Seems so random and unfair to most kids grow fine past these dangers and this poor child and family have this happen. I'm so sorry. Prayers here too!

Wow. My condolances to this family. I know what it is like to grieve and this family has a long hard road ahead of them. She is resting with Jesus now.
