Burglars Hit Lester Glenn Auto Dealerships

Incident occurred on Sunday night, police chief says

Toms River Police are investigating the recent burglary of the Lester Glenn Buick/GMC and Lester Glenn auto dealerships on Route 37, Police Chief Michael G. Mastronardy said.

Police have determined that the suspect or suspects gained entry by smashing a front window at Lester Glenn Buick then prying open a safe after 9 p.m. on Sunday night, the chief said.

Approximately $900 was discovered missing, Mastronardy said.

Officers Graham Borg and Chris McDowell, along with officers from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department are investigating, he said.

What in the world is going on with Toms River? It seems every day it's in the paper for robberies. Such a shame

Unfortunately these are desperate times for the people without morals. This, if I remember correctly, happens during any economic decline. Yes, scares me since I have only lived here for a few years and I thought it was a safe place to retire. Boy, was I wrong! I hope the election in November changes the economy for the better! Lets hope....

What is it with the car dealerships in this area? Four robberies in Manahawkin and now one in Toms River within a month. Multi-million dollar inventories unprotected by alarms, cameras, or any other form of realistic security. A front window smashed with time to ply open a safe. Why did they bother to lock the doors at night? Don’t financial institutions and their insurance companies care about loss or damage to the fleets of automobiles sitting unprotected day after day? Irresponsible business owners threaten the safety of the neighborhood by luring criminals to easy pickings and, as such, undermine the ability of law enforcement to protect the neighborhood. Shame on them.

Lester Glenn are a bunch of crooks.....No sympathy here.

Wow you would think with a front window smashed some type of alarm would have gone off and they would have never had time to open a safe. Guess the dealership doesn't care they will just pass their losses on to the customers.

Calling BS on this one. PRY open a safe? Never saw a safe you could PRY open. That is why they are called 'safes'.

I can't believe these dealerships don't have any kind of alarm systems. Shame on them.

It was an optional extra that they couldn't get the manager to throw in with the deal.

When I worked at Cumberland Farms on Fisher blvd back in 1988, someone smashed the front door and stole the FLOOR SAFE. Crime isn't new in TR or anywhere else and it will always be present to some degree regardless of who's in office or how many law enforcement officials are out there.
