Local Man Charged in Connection With 20 Burglaries in Toms River, Brick

Cops: Toms River man caught after using a stolen credit card to put money on government-subsidized cell phone

A Toms River man is facing a slew of charges stemming from an investigation into more than 20 burglaries in Toms River and Brick, police said Monday.

Rajhan R. Davis, 31, of the Winteringham Village apartments, was arrested March 8 after a joint investigation by Toms River and Brick police detectives.

The burglaries varied in nature, said Toms River Police spokesman Ralph Stocco. Davis appeared on the Brick department's radar when he was suspected of burglarizing and robbing items from a Bally's Fitness location. He was ultimately arrested in Toms River while trying to break into cars in the parking lot of a Pathmark supermarket, Stocco said.

Detective Roger Hull of the Toms River Police Department worked closely with Brick Police Detective Robert Sheppard in identifying Davis.

A break in the case came when Davis used a stolen credit card to place funds on his government provided cellular phone, according to Stocco. That led to police issuing subpoenas to the cellular carrier which, in turn, provided the direct link to Davis, he said.

Police searched Davis' home March 6, finding stolen items from burglaries in both towns, Stocco said. While an arrest warrant was being prepared, and prior to formal charges being filed in the burglaries, Toms River Police Ptl. Francis Bopp and Ptl. Ryan Rush caught Davis in the Pathmark lot.

Davis now faces eight counts of burglary, six counts of credit card theft, five counts of property theft, three counts of credit card fraud, three counts of attempted credit card fraud, one count of identity theft, and one count of using a computer access device for theft. Additional charges were expected to be filed in connection to the Brick incidents.

Davis was being lodged in the Ocean County Jail in lieu of $350,000 bail.
