Ocean County Woman Killed After Car Struck Street Sign, Utility Pole And Tree

A 27-year-old Manchester woman was killed in a car crash in Jackson on Wednesday after her car struck a street sign, utility pole and tree, police said.

According to Jackson police:

The Jackson Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash which occurred at 8:28pm on March 12th, 2014.

Twenty-seven-year-old Mary Collins of Manchester was traveling north bound on South Hope Chapel Road in her 2000 Toyota Camry when she approached a bend in the roadway, approximately three quarters (3/4) of a mile south of the intersection with Whitesville Road.

As the roadway curved to the left, the vehicle Ms. Collins was operating went off the right side of the roadway, striking a street sign, utility pole and tree. Ms. Collins was alone in the vehicle, suffered serious injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle.

After being removed from the vehicle Ms. Collins was transported to Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood where she was later pronounced deceased. Initial investigation showed that Ms. Collins was wearing her seatbelt and no other vehicles appear to be involved.

The Ocean County Sheriff’s Criminalistics Investigations Unit (C.I.U.), Jackson First Aid, Monoc Paramedics and the Whitesville Fire Company responded and assisted in the investigation.

The motor vehicle crash is being investigated by Jackson Township Traffic Safety Officers Trevor Crowley and Brad Reider. Anyone who may of witness the crash or has any information regarding the crash is asked to contact the Jackson Police Department at 732-928-1111

I didn't realize these comments were here till today. I commented because I personally knew this woman. She was not a drug user and was a very responsible woman beloved by many. Mary's accident occurred during that strong rainstorm and on a sharp turn. I don't know why people would suggest it was anything other than what the article explained. No one onows how fast she was traveling of course but it is obvious she slid off the road at the curve. Not every accident is the result of irresponsible behavior people. In a storm the mother of a two year old boy slid off the road and struck a sign, a pole and a tree. She passed away :( Now her family has to deal with the grief. End of story... She was a sweet and responsible person lost in a tragic sudden way. My heart hurts and I barely knew her. Have some respect :(
