Motorcyclist Airlifted to Hospital Following Tuesday Night Crash in Whiting

Toms River motorcyclist and Whiting van driver involved in crash

A Toms River man was airlifted to an area hospital after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a van Tuesday night in Whiting.

At about 8:55 p.m., the Triumph motorcycle, driven by 30-year-old Johnpaul Tinio, was traveling east on Schoolhouse Road when a Ford Van operated by Vincenzo Ciccarelli, 76, of Whiting, turned left in front of Tinio at the intersection with Route 530, said Capt. Lisa Parker.

"This action caused Mr. Tinio to lay down his motorcycle, which impacted the right side of Mr. Ciccarelli’s van," Parker said in a statement.

Tinio was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune by helicopter for what Parker described as "internal injuries." Ciccarelli and his passenger, brother Phillip Ciccarelli, were not injured as a result of the crash.

A hospital spokesperson on Wednesday morning said that Tinio is listed in critical condition.

Police were assisted at the scene by Whiting fire and first aid responders and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and Criminalistics Investigation Unit, according to Parker.

The crash is being investigated by Patrolman Douglas Higgins of the police department's Traffic Safety Section and Patrolman Peter Manco. Police ask that anyone with information regarding the crash call the department at 732-657-2009, ext. 4400.

Seems to me the driver of the van made an aggressive turn ignoring oncoming traffic. Not an accident at all. It is an intentional action to cause harm by deciding he could turn into oncoming traffic and cut somebody off.

No one is saying the motorcyclist is not a nice guy ! No one is blaming...just posting an "maybe" of what happened. And "Commenting" I am sure the 76 yr old driver didn't say, oooh let me be irresponsible and intentionally(to use your words) cut this motorcycle off and create an accident!!! Man, do you people actually read what you write before you hit send? Because if not, maybe you should!!

Sorry my husband saw the accident and the van turned right in front of the motorcycle. Problem is people seem to think motorcycle's can stop easier then cars. When in fact it is the total opposite.

Ok, I'm on the road everyday and I can't tell you how many stupid things I see drivers doing!! Young and Old, no consideration for other motorist what so ever. I think EVERYONE should have to take driving test every 5 yrs...its getting rediculous out there. Also, once you're over the age of 65 it should be every 2 yrs...its sad but these people actually get a license and can't drive for shit !!!!!

"Most" accidents involve motorcycles??? I seriously doubt it.
