Blotter: Crash on Mapletree Road, Fire on Feathertree

Incidents in Toms River on Wednesday

Mapletree Road was closed between Old Freehold and Hooper as Toms River Police respond to a vehicle collision at 5:45 p.m.

Samantha Durante, 23 of Daffodil Court, was westbound on Mapletree Road operating 2002 Volkswagen when her vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole, said Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy. She was transported by Toms River Police EMS to Jersey Shore Hospital in Neptune after the crash that resulted in Mapletree Road being at Hooper Avenue closed for 30 minutes.

The impact from the crash damaged utility poles, creating downed wires on Mapletree Road. Officer David Bartoshek and Michael Cassidy are investigating the accident that occurred at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Toms River Police directed traffic at Hooper Avenue and Mapletree Road, sending traffic south on Hooper Avenue.

Fire on Feathertree Drive

A small fire in a home on Feathertree Drive, off Hooper Avenue near Indian Hill Road, has closed the road as units respond at 5:45 p.m.

Silverton Fire Company engine 2911 remained on the scene as the fire is currently under control.

Damage was reportedly minimal with no injuries to any occupants.

Motorcycle and SUV collision on Bay Avenue

Toms River Police responded to a motorcycle accident on Bay Avenue, at the intersection with Briar Avenue around noon.

Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said the incident did not appear serious and that emergency response was under way.

Police said the accident involved a motorcycle and an SUV, with injuries to the motorcyclist.

Michael Camisa, 54 of Toms River, was operating a 1987 Honda motorcycle east on Bay Avenue when a vehicle in front of the motor cycle went to make a right turn onto Briar Avenue. 

Jonathan Jose, 54 of Toms River, was making a left turn out of Briar onto Bay Avenue, and his Nissan collided with the motorcycle. Camisa was transported to Community Medical Center by Toms River Police EMS.  Jose was issued a summons for careless driving.

Traffic was diverted down Tanglewood, an intersection just west of Briar on Bay Avenue.

Route 571 traffic is slow in both directions at 12:15 p.m. With single lanes of traffic on Bay Avenue detoured onto the residential side street of Tanglewood, expect traffic delays. Toms River Police are directing traffic.
