Motorist Rescued From Car in Morning Toms River Crash

Toms River police officers broke out the windows of an overturned vehicle and began rescue attempts as firefighters traveled to scene of a one-car accident Tuesday morning, police said.

Township police responded to an overturned vehicle in front of 170 Sunset Avenue at 9:28 a.m., according to police spokesman Ralph Stocco.

Traffic Safety Corporal Frank Palino is investigating the crash, in which the driver, a 45-year-old Toms River woman whose name has not been released – was traveling east on Sunset when her vehicle left the roadway to the right for reasons yet to be determined, Stocco said.

Members of the Pleasant Plains and Silverton fire departments responded and used their heavy rescue equipment to extricate the driver from her car, said Stocco. She was treated by Toms River EMS and MONOC paramedics who transported her to Jersey Shore Medical Center.

The crash is still under investigation and no charges have been filed as of yet.
