UPDATE: Multiple Vehicle Accident at Riverwood Drive, Whitesville Road

Child airlifted, pregant woman transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

A Honda minivan and a 2011 Chevrolet Trailblazer were involved in an accident at the intersection of Riverwood Drive and Whitesville Road Sunday evening.

A six-year-old child was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, police said.

The Honda, being driven by Nechama Itzkowitz, 28, of Lakewood, was exiting Riverwood Drive when it ran the stop sign and was struck by the Trailblazer, being operated by Carmine Petosa, 40, of Jackson, police said. The Trailblazer then struck a utility pole, according to police.

The minivan contained six children and a pregnant passenger. One child was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. The pregnant passenger was transported by ambulance to Jersey Shore University Medical Center’s Trauma Center. Petosa also suffered minor injuries, police said.

Silverton First Aid, Toms River and Hatzolah emergency medical services and Pleasant Plains Fire Company all responded.

Whitesville Road was closed between Stevens Road and Riverwood Drive for two hours during the investigation. 

Northbound Whitesville will be closed until utility crews replace the pole that was struck, police said.

Traffic Safety Patrolman David Bartoshek, along with Officer Joshua Pedalino and Sergeant Eugene Bachonski are investigating.
