Berkeley Man Fatally Stabbed Trying to Break into Brick Township Home

Sunday night incident; South Toms River man also arrested, charged with armed robbery

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office confirmed on Monday that a 31-year-old Berkeley Township man was stabbed and killed by a Brick man after he and an accomplice tried to enter the Brick man's residence with the intent of robbing it.

Adam Ferguson was stabbed inside the Marilyn Drive home of Brick resident Joseph P. Bellisano, Jr., 27, after he and Mark A. Dillard, of South Toms River, attempted the rob the home, according to Deputy Chief Michael Mohel of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

Brick Patch of the incident, which occurred at about 6:45 p.m. Sunday. Ferguson, of Shearwater Hollow in the township's Bayville section, was pronounced dead at Ocean Medical Center, Brick, at 7:53 p.m., Mohel said.

The accomplice, Dillard, 30, was arrested and charged with armed robbery. Superior Court Judge Francis R. Hodgson, Jr., set bail at $350,000 cash. Dillard was being lodged in the Ocean County Jail, Toms River, in lieu of bail.

Police also arrested Bellisano following the incident. He was charged with drug possession and intent to distribute oxycodone and released on a summons. He has not been charged in the stabbing.
