A home in Toms River's Normandy Beach section suffered heavy damage from a fire that resulted in a response from four fire companies.
The blaze at the home at 37 First Avenue was reported at about 1:40 p.m. Sunday, according to Jim Mercready, director of Toms River Fire Prevention.
Upon firefighters' arrival, heavy smoke was emanating from the roof of the structure and shortly thereafter flames were visible from the front window, said Mercready.
Ultimately, the Ocean Beach, Lavallette, Seaside Heights and Seaside Park companies, plus Toms River Fire Company #2 responded. The Toms River Fire Department Technical Rescue Team was also requested to the scene to reinforce the structural integrity of the house so fire investigators could safely enter the structure to conduct the fire cause and origin investigation.
Thus far, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and remains under investigation by Inspector Kevin Esposito of the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention as well the Toms River Police Department and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s office.
Fire suppression operations were under the direction of Ocean Beach Fire Company Chief William Giordano.
No injuries were reported, though the home was posted as uninhabitable as a result of the blaze.
