One Possible Injury In House Fire Extinguished With Garden Hose

Homeowner used fire extinguishers, watering hose on ceiling fire

A resident took to using a fire extinguisher and a garden house to fight a blaze in the ceiling of a mobile home that began around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.

Toms River Fire Co. 2 Chief Jeff Cirz said a homeowner on Tuyahov Boulevard first used a fire extinguisher and some water from a garden house to extinguish a fire in the ceiling of the home's bathroom.

"It was a small fire," Cirz said. "It was out quickly as we arrived."

Cirz said the damage was confined to the bathroom of the home. The resident was checked out for smoke and extinguisher inhalation by Toms River EMS, who also responded.

Toms River Fire Co. No. 1 & 2 arrived to respond to the blaze with Co. No. 1 Assistant Chief John Mount responding and Cirz in charge of command.

At 5:30 p.m. the fire responders remained on the scene with Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention. The circle at the end of the culdesac of Tuyahov Boulevard, off Route 37 West, remained blocked.
