Ortley Beach Condo Only Known Home Damage After Earthquake

Stairs pulled away from building, police captain calls impact to township minor

The only known building impact from Toms River was a stairwell separating from a building about an inch, police said.

Captain Mitch Little said there was “nothing significant to note regarding the earthquake,” as no injuries or major structural damage was found.

However, in the Ortley Beach section of town, a condominium complex on the bayside reported minor impact, Little said.

The exterior stairs at 1660 Bay Boulevard in Ortley Beach pulled away from the building, Little said. A one-inch gap formed between where the stairs met the building.

“All appropriate authorities were called and responded to secure the site,” Little said.

The building, on the bay side of the barrier island, near Eisenhower Avenue, is a three-story structure with a ground floor garage level.
