Overnight Fire On Clayton Avenue

Electrical malfunction to blame

A Clayton Avenue home suffered heavy damage to the rear of its residence in an overnight electrical fire.

Pets, including a family cat were lost in the blaze, according to a family member.

Residents made it out of the two-story house safely.

Heavy fire was reported in the attic at around 11:30 p.m., according to initial reports, with a working fire as emergency responders arrived and worked two lines to put out the blaze.

The two-story home's top floor windows were boarded up with plywood the following afternoon.  The private home is down the street from the Pleasant Plains Fire Department, off of Routes 571 and 9.

The Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention were reportedly on the scene to investigate after the fire was contained before 2 a.m.
