Pedestrian Injured On Route 37

Bayville man was crossing Route 37 at Marian Street.

A Bayville man was struck by a motor vehicle while attempting to cross Route 37 in Toms River Saturday night.

Toms River Police Officer Robert Westfall is investigating the pedestrian accident that occurred 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Route 37 and Marian Street. 

Michael Ryder, 54, of Driftwood Drive, Bayville, was crossing Route 37 in the eastbound lanes.

After one vehicle stopped for him, he walked directly in front of another vehicle that was eastbound and was struck, according to Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy.

The vehicle that struck him was a 2010 Mazda operated by Ashley Buonavolonta, 21, of Stafford Township.

Mr. Ryder was transported to Jersey Shore Hospital in Neptune Township.
