Pedestrian Struck by Pick-up Truck, Route 9 Closed

Traffic detoured between Route 70 and North Maple in Toms River

Route 9 closed around 11 p.m. after a pedestrian was struck by a pick-up truck near the in Toms River, police said.

Traffic is being detoured from Route 70 to North Maple Avenue as emergency responders address serious injuries of the pedestrian, who Mastronardy said was walking near the Ramada when he was hit by a southbound truck.

The names of the driver and pedestrian were not released and the extent of injuries were not known as of 11:30 p.m.

"The pedestrian was, by all indications, struck while in the roadway," Mastronardy said. Further questions were directed to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, who are assisting with the incident.

Drivers should avoid the area of Route 9 between Route 70 and North Maple Avenue. Lakewood Police are assisting in directing traffic.
