Police: $6,000 in Property Stolen from Toms River Church

Toms River police are investigating a weekend burglary at a local church during which property valued at more than $6,000 was reportedly taken.

An Apple MacBook computer, and two musical instruments — a 1988 Les Paul guitar and Yamaha bass — were reported stolen from the First Baptist Church on Main Street, according to Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy. 

Officer Chris Leighton is investigating the burglary, which Mastronardy said occurred some time last weekend. The unknown suspects apparently entered the church through a basement window, the chief said.

Toms River Police are investigating a purse snatching that occurred 6:30 p.m. Friday by the ShopRite located on Routes 166 and 37.

A 25-year-old Toms River woman, whose name was not released by police, reported that a black male wearing a long flannel shirt took her grey pocketbook with about $100 inside and fled on foot towards the nearby Emerald Apartments, according to Mastronardy.

Sgt. Scott Moeller and Officer Charles Grainger are investigating along with the Ocean County Sheriff Department's K-9 unit, the chief said.

Toms River police Officer Mike Gallipoli is investigating the Saturday night theft of a three foot white vinyl gate from a Kenton Drive residence. Unknown suspects entered the property and unbolted the gate from the fence and left with the gate and all the hardware for same, Mastronardy said.
