Police Blotter: 3,000 Pounds of Batteries Stolen

Plus more motorcycle accidents and car burglaries this week

More than 3,000 pounds of batteries were among the items stolen from a used merchandise and scrap metal buyer sometime over the weekend, Toms River police said.

The batteries were stolen from Quick Cash, in the Victory Plaza of Route 37 West, by unknown subjects, said Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy.

Also stolen: 200 lbs. of vehicle alternators and 200 lbs. of vehicle starters.

is in a small strip mall at 1521 Route 37 West, where customers can cash in a variety of items — everything from antiques to electronics to scrap metal. Mastronardy said the batteries stolen were not car batteries, and it was unclear whether they were working or not or had been cashed in as scrap.

He said police believe the suspects made off with approximately 1 ½ tons of products by accessing the property from a surrounding fence.

Officer Ron Sermarini is investigating this theft that occurred over the weekend.

 

Sunday:

The number of burglaries from vehicles continues in Toms River, Mastronardy said.

Officer Victor Tamaro is investigating the theft of a purse from a vehicle parked at between 2:30 and 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon.  The gold purse was removed from the front passengers’ side floor of an Mastronardy said the proceeds included credit cards, $8 in cash, and a $50 Lowes gift card.

 

Monday:

A motorcycle accident briefly slowed traffic on Fischer Boulevard southbound near Pumpshire Road Monday night, but Mastronardy said the accident did not involve any injury to the motorcyclist.

Toms River police were inspecting the debris left by a crash of a motorcycle around 9 p.m. Monday, while the cycle was heavily damaged, Mastronardy said the motorcyclist sustained minor injuries. Toms River EMS responded.
