Police Blotter: Copper Theft From JCP&L Substation

Adams Avenue site in East Dover section of Toms River

An Adams Avenue utility company substation again had copper wire stolen from it this week, police said.

Chief Michael Mastronardy said Officer Daniel Brennan is investigating the theft of 50 foot section of copper wire, valued at $500, from the Jersey Central Power & Light substation on Adams Avenue, near the intersection with Coolidge. 

"The wire was inside a 6 foot fenced-in area at the substation located on Adams Avenue," said the police chief. The suspect, or suspects, cut a hole in the wire fence and removed the copper. The incident was reported Wednesday.

The JCP&L substation was struck by copper thieves previously.

In early , copper theft was reported at the same site at Adams and Coolidge. Mastronardy said in that incident the copper was spray painted to leave an identifying mark, a process used as a crime prevention measure. Approximately $400 in copper was stolen then.
