Police Blotter: Disturbance At Convenience Store, Accident on Whitesville

Whitesville Road was closed for about an hour after a driver struck a utility pole in a one-car accident around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said the three occupants of the sedan, which overturned, suffered minor injuries. The names of the driver or occupants were not released.

Mastronardy said the vehicle overturned after striking a utility pole.  Traffic Safety Officer Robert Westfall is investigating the one-car accident that resulting in the closure of Whitesville Road for one hour between Stevens Road and Riverwood Drive.

Disturbance Leads to Arrest 

A disturbance at a Lakehurst convenience store led to the arrest of two Toms River residents last week.

Borough police were dispatched to the  on Route 70 at about 6 p.m. on March 2 after receiving a call for a disturbance inside the store, said Chief of Police Eric Higgins. 

Police arrived at the store to find that Toms River residents Andrew T. Welch, 39, and Holly S. Hoffman, 41, were intoxicated and would not cooperative with the responding officers. Patrolmen Iain James and Stephen Gallo then arrested the two for disorderly conduct, Higgins said. 

The pair was processed at headquarters and was released on summonses pending a municipal court date, according to Higgins.
