Police Blotter: Lagoon Oil Spill, Arrests for Drugs

Recent police and fire activity for Toms River

A report of a leak of oil into a lagoon in Shelter Cove required the response of firefighters, the Toms River Office of Emergency Management and Ocean County Health Department yesterday morning.

The spill occurred on Bermuda Drive, with John Winton, OEM coordinator, reported some diesel fuel in the lagoon from an unknown source. Tow Boat USA was called to do the clean up, said Paul Daley of Toms River OEM.

• Manchester Township Patrolman Joseph Fastige charged 20-year-old Toms River man Dayzjuwon N. Johnson with possession of a controlled dangerous substance on Sunday, July 22, according to information released by Manchester Lt. Vincent Manco. Johnson was charged on Route 37 and was released with summonses.

• Nicholas S. Mayer, 18, of Toms River was charged with hindering police ony Route 37 by Manchester Patrolman Joseph Fastige on July 22. Manco said that Mayer was issued summonses.

• In Jackson, a Toms River resident was arrested after a resident there spotted him walking suspiciously around the residential neighborhood, Drexel Drive. Jackson Lt. Steven Laskewicz said Lee Currie, 25, of Toms River was arrested after a resident reported a suspicious man in the area, who knocked on a door to ask if a lawn needed to be cut, although the man appeared to have no equipment to do so.

Laskewicz said Currie was found allegeldy with burglary tools. Currie was charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools and was sent to Ocean County Jail, Toms River, with bail set at $35,000.
